The Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe is the brother tribe to the Pokanoket Federation and the Affiliated Tribes of New England Indians. The Pocasset would like to set the record straight the mainland tribes of which are few left have merged into the Affiliated Tribes of New England Indians. These are tribes that had treaties with Massachusetts Bay Colony before and after King Phillip's War. Treaties such as the Mass Maritimes Treaty signed in Boston in 1725 and the Casco Bay Treaty signed in 1678. The Pocasset's which it was recorded by Benjamin Church were involved with King Phillips Pokanoket Federation as stated by Weetamoe " most of my warriors are already with Metacom" . The original signers of the 1621 Treaty included the Pocasset Wampanoag Chief Corbitant father of Weetamoe along with Massasoit Ousamequin. Many people have distorted the real history of the Wampanoag Pokanoket Federation but the truth always surfaces. The Pocasset today are allied with there brother mainland tribes. The Pocasset's respect the land, the people and culture of the past. The individuals leaders as Leroy Ousamequin Perry Sachem of the Wampanoag Federation and a Pocasset and Chief Beavertail Taylor, Morning Star Taylor are a credit to the Pocasset's. These leaders have taught the island tribes culture, history and language of the Pokanoket's. They live on with today's leaders such as Harry Taylor Running Elk, George Spring Buffalo, Duane Sheppard Ousamequin 3rd, Daryn Watching Eagle Roderick, and Kenny Stonewolf Lyons our current leadership. We will be now supporting a new 1st Light Powwow in May 14th &15th 2016. The time of King Phillip with the Affiliated Tribes of New England.
